Crash Course about Personality Trait for Marketers
As customer, what is best than finding that your marketer understands your language. So it became crucial for marketer to be able to step into customer’s shoes for a moment and identify them. And so that’s why marketers can now adopt a personalized approach to their work. “This allows us to nuance our messaging so that rather than serving the same advert to 100 million people.. you can sub-segment people by personality and change the creative to resonate with individuals based on how they see the world.” said the Cambridge Analytica CEO quoted from Harvard Business Review’s page.
Talking about personality, it is not just to labelled one person this stamp or other. Understanding people’s personality is to seeing a pattern of their preferences; their natural choice to begin their though process and act.
Madam Jean Kummerow once talked about Briggs’ MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) on TEDx Talks. To make it the simplest possible, we can begin with how people gain their energy. It is where we direct and receive our energy. There are two ways; the extroversion and introversion. The extroverted wants their energy to go out. It’s like the cable phone. They work by connecting themselves, the energy they use while going out and meeting people would bounce back to them. In the other hand, the introverted wants their energy to go in. It is more like the cellular phone. They need to charge the batteries first before ready to go out with the society. The introverted needs to looking in their head to create more energy and be connected with people will drain their energy.
And then the think process begins. This is how we gathering data and the kind of information we like and trust. There are sensing and intuition’s way. For the sensing people, they like to think in a practical, real and actual way. And for intuitive people, the think process goes by the possibility, the big picture. This is mostly what makes people see the exact same thing but interpret it with the exact different interpretations.
The next process is to making decisions. Not only people are different from the way they gain and direct their energy, the way they interpret think in their head from the world they see, the way people making their decisions are also different. There are those who prefer the thinking and those who prefer feeling. For thinking people, they confront world in logical way. They look the pros and the cons while making decisions. While for feeling people, they prefer to step into the problem, sensing it, seeing how thing will impact people. For thinking people everyone is in same standard, they build goal and giving compliment just when the goal achieved. But for feeling people, everyone needs different thing so they value the process and give more appreciation to every step.
Lastly, it is how we live our lives. There are the judging team and perceiving team. For judging people, they like to organize thing. Making plan for each and every step they take, or should take. People on this team like to make decision, crossing their bullet point of what to does. Meanwhile the perceive team prefer to go with the flow. Be spontaneous and go show and always try to getting information about every option possible.
